The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Sikkim unit, has issued a sharp condemnation of Congress MP Dr. Ajoy Kumar over his controversial remark likening Sikkim to Pakistan — a statement that has triggered strong backlash across the region. The outrage intensified as the comment was also shared by the official handle of the Indian National Congress.
Dr. Kumar’s statement, in which he reportedly referred to Sikkim as a "geopolitical hotspot" akin to Pakistan and a "threat to Bharat", has been labeled by BJYM as “irresponsible, deeply insensitive, and factually baseless.”
“This kind of derogatory comparison is not only historically and constitutionally flawed but also an affront to the patriotic people of Sikkim, who have consistently demonstrated their unwavering loyalty to the Indian Union,” said BJYM Sikkim in an official statement.
The youth wing strongly criticized what it described as the Congress party’s persistent tendency to alienate and belittle the sentiments of the Northeast region. "Such divisive remarks reflect the Congress’s outdated mindset, where Northeast India continues to be misunderstood and politically marginalized,” the statement read.
BJYM further described Sikkim as the "guardian brother" among the seven sister states of the Northeast, and emphasized that the state is an “inseparable and proud part of Bharat.”
“It is high time the Indian National Congress faces the reality of India’s unity in diversity. These remarks insult not only Sikkim but the collective pride of the Northeast,” BJYM asserted, calling on citizens across the country to reject such “misleading narratives” that threaten national integrity.
