Sikkim's Gangtok city is facing a major water supply disruption after multiple trees fell at 9th Mile, Rateychu, severely damaged the main pipelines carrying water to the capital.
The impact of the falling trees caused significant pipe bursts, affecting distribution across several localities.
Emergency restoration teams from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) have been rushed to the site and repair work is currently underway.
However, officials have warned that full restoration of supply may only be possible by tomorrow due to the extent of the damage.
In the meantime, the PHED has issued an appeal to residents of Gangtok to use water judiciously and conserve existing supplies until normal supply is restored.
Authorities assured that all available resources are being mobilised to speed up repairs and minimize inconvenience to the public.
