Severe weather conditions in Sikkim have led to widespread disruption along the Nathula-Tsomgo Lake corridor, as heavy snowfall stranded hundreds of vehicles and tourists on Tuesday, April 15.
Authorities confirmed that over 1,500 vehicles with valid permits were allowed access to the scenic route earlier in the day, many of which are now immobilized due to the accumulating snow.
The affected area, especially around the Changu Lake-Nathula Pass axis, has been hit by intense snowfall, resulting in heavy traffic congestion and road blockages.
District authorities and rescue teams have swiftly launched relief and evacuation operations to assist stranded tourists.
Road-clearing machinery has also been deployed to expedite the restoration of traffic movement. Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety and swift return of all affected individuals, even as weather conditions remain challenging.
The local administration has urged travelers to stay updated through official advisories and avoid venturing into restricted zones until the situation stabilizes.
