Sikkim: Padma Shri awardee Tularam Upreti laid to rest with state honours

Renowned organic farming pioneer Tularam Upreti was accorded full state honours as his final rites were performed at Shantighaat, Jalipool, today.

A ceremonial guard of honour by the Sikkim Armed Police (SAP) marked the farewell to the Padma Shri awardee, whose contributions to sustainable agriculture left an enduring impact on the state.

Ministers, senior officials, and dignitaries stood alongside family members, locals, and well-wishers to pay their last respects. Upreti played a pivotal role in Sikkim’s transition to organic farming, championing sustainable practices that gained national and international recognition.

His work remains a cornerstone of the state’s agricultural policies, inspiring farmers and policymakers to continue his vision for a greener future.
