Bodoland FC etched its name in Assam’s football history by storming into the quarterfinals of the 134th Indian Oil Durand Cup for the first time, with a thumping 4-0 victory over ITBP FT in their final Group D match at the SAI Stadium, Kokrajhar.
Playing under floodlights and intermittent rain, the home side put on a dominant display to finish top of Group D with a flawless nine points from three matches, continuing their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Timothy opened the scoring in the 25th minute, followed by Pedro converting a penalty in the 37th minute to double the lead. Gwgwmsar struck the third goal in the 40th minute, ensuring Bodoland FC went into halftime with a comfortable advantage. In the second half, Abdul sealed the emphatic win with an 82nd-minute strike.
With this win, Bodoland FC join the Indian Navy Football Team (Group F) in the last eight, alongside Emami East Bengal (Group A), Mohun Bagan SG (Group B), Jamshedpur FC (Group C), and NorthEast United FC (Group E). Shillong Lajong FC (Group E) and Diamond Harbour FC (Group B) have also advanced as the best second-placed sides.
The quarterfinals of Asia’s oldest football tournament will begin on August 16.
