First phase of Census 2027 begins in Tripura after 15-year gap

The first phase of Census 2027, comprising the houselisting operation, commenced across Tripura on Saturday, August 1, marking the beginning of the nationwide exercise in the state after a gap of 15 years.

During the 30-day exercise, enumerators will visit every household to digitally collect information based on 33 questions covering five sections prescribed by the Centre.

Director of Census Operations, Tripura, Ratan Biswas said the exercise began smoothly across the state, with trained enumerators carrying out the task.

"The first phase of Census 2027 began across Tripura after a gap of 15 years without any problem. The enumerators, who have been well trained, are enthusiastic about performing their assigned duties," Biswas told reporters.

He appealed to residents to cooperate with the enumerators by providing accurate information to ensure an error-free Census.

Biswas clarified that enumerators would not ask citizens to produce any supporting documents while collecting information.

He also assured the public that all data collected during the Census would remain confidential and would not be shared or used for individual purposes.

The houselisting phase is the first stage of Census 2027 and will record details of houses and the amenities available in each household before the population enumeration exercise.
