In a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in Tripura, a landmark Memorandum of Settlement was signed on Wednesday, September 4 in New Delhi between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and two prominent insurgent groups, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and senior officials from both the central and state governments.
The peace agreement marks a crucial breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to end decades of insurgency-related violence in the Northeastern state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing peace and development in the region. He highlighted that the agreement is another milestone in the government’s resolve to bring insurgent groups into the mainstream, fostering a secure environment conducive to progress.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed deep gratitude to Home Minister Shah for his instrumental role in fostering peace and prosperity in the Northeast. Saha noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the past decade has witnessed the signing of multiple peace agreements across the region, with three significant accords specifically benefiting Tripura. He praised the NLFT and ATTF members for their decision to renounce violence and integrate into the broader developmental journey of the state.
“The future of Tripura is promising under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the steadfast guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah,” Saha remarked, reflecting the optimism that this historic agreement brings to the people of Tripura and the broader Northeast region.
