The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) of Tipra Motha Party on Monday has threatened to launch a state-wide protest by blocking national highways and locking all government offices if the Tripura government fails to take action against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma.
The Tipra Motha Party today launched a protest and locked the office of the Gomati District Magistrate after the DM purportedly denied a meeting with the royal scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, Pradyot Kishor Manikya Debbarma, when he arrived at the DM’s residence.
“Now we are here standing in front of the Gomati District Magistrate office. Earlier we had said that if the state government does not provide a solution or take action against the DM of Gomati, then we will lock all offices in the Gomati District. We have locked two offices. This is not the end. This is the beginning," Suroj Debbarma, president of the YTF, said.
He warned that if the Government of Tripura didn’t respond by evening, the protest would escalate. “It will affect the entire state — South, Sepahijala, Gomati, North — everywhere. We are going to have a road blockade or else shut down all the offices. And later, the blame should not come to us.”
He said they had given the government a time-bound deadline of 96 hours — four days — to respond. “In that time frame — in the given time frame — if you cannot give us a solution for a single DM, this is the message we want to convey. And if this issue cannot be resolved, we will lock all the offices, block all the offices, and shut down the entire state of Tripura. It might be tomorrow or the day after,” he added.
Calling the issue serious, he urged the government to act. “We all protest against such a DM, which is not tolerable in our society or our district.”
