A family picnic at Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary in Tripura turned tragic when a mini truck carrying 17 people fell into a deep gorge. The accident occurred in Sepahijala district while the family was returning home from the outing.
Eyewitnesses said the truck, which was also loaded with goods, was reversing when the driver mistakenly drove it into the gorge. “Like everyone else, we were enjoying the picnic,” said an unidentified man who was present at the spot with his family. “The truck reversed instead of moving forward, and it fell. We all rushed to help and managed to rescue the injured, but the driver fled the scene.”
Another witness, a shopkeeper near the sanctuary, confirmed that the family had come from Melaghar for the picnic.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, with fire and rescue teams pulling the injured from the wreckage and transporting them to Bishalgarh District Hospital. Local authorities are investigating the incident, and a search is ongoing for the driver.
