In a heartbreaking incident, two members of the same family including a 75-year-old grandfather and his 11-month-old grandson lost their lives in a horrific vehicle collision on the National Highway near Parimal Chaumuhani Bridge under Bishramganj under Sepahijali District on Sunday late night.
Tripura Police sources said that the accident occurred on Saturday late night when a speeding ambulance collided head-on with a Maruti Celero car returning from Udaipur Kakraban of Gomati District.
“The Celero was carrying members of the Bhowmik family from the Madhyapara area, located near Charilam of Sepahijala district from Udaipur Kakraban of Gomati District. The impact of the collision was devastating.
Narayan Bhowmik, a local grocer and elder of the family, died on the spot. His 11-month-old grandson, Adrik Bhowmik, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Agartala’s GB Pant Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries”, said the police.
Three other family members — Dolly Rani Bhowmik, Sangita Bhowmik, and Pintu Bhowmik — sustained serious injuries and were initially treated at the Bishramganj Primary Health Center.
“They were later referred to GBP Hospital for advanced medical care. Residents nearby rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash and immediately informed local authorities. The Bishramganj Fire and Emergency Services and police swiftly responded. Bishramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subimal Debnath personally supervised rescue operations and ensured the clearance of the traffic jam caused by the wreckage. Both vehicles were later towed to the police station using a dredger”, said a cop.
