Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha today, April 5 inspected the IGM Hospital and Agartala Government Dental College, urging doctors and staff to uphold the highest standards in patient care and ensure that no lapses occur in medical treatment.
Interacting with healthcare professionals during his visit, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, emphasized the need to address service-related shortcomings promptly and effectively. He acknowledged the relentless efforts of doctors and health workers at IGM, especially under immense pressure, while noting areas that still require improvement.
"IGM Hospital, being centrally located in Agartala and one of the oldest healthcare institutions in the state, bears a significant responsibility. Despite the high patient load, the medical team is delivering commendable services. However, issues like cleanliness and awareness among patient attendants remain challenges that must be addressed," the Chief Minister said.
CM Saha pointed out the need to adopt positive practices from the corporate healthcare sector while highlighting the stark contrast in expenditure. "Government hospitals spend nearly ten times more than private ones, yet we must learn from their efficiency models," he noted.
The Chief Minister also took stock of hospital infrastructure, particularly the seating arrangements, and interacted with the Medical Superintendent, whom he described as “very proactive.” He further examined the attendance of hospital staff and the overall condition of the facilities.
"I have come here today without any prior intimation to get a realistic picture of the ground situation. I also visited the dental college to review the condition and functioning there. The idea is simple—only by identifying shortcomings can we rectify them. Challenges will arise, but our goal is to resolve them efficiently to achieve 100 percent service delivery,” Dr. Saha said.
He expressed satisfaction over the hospital’s progress in recent years and assured that necessary steps and guidelines would soon be implemented to bridge the existing gaps in the healthcare system.
