As part of a nationwide initiative to bolster disaster response preparedness, a large-scale civil defence mock drill was conducted today while in Agartala it was held at Umakanta English Medium School Ground under West District.
The exercise saw the participation of multiple disaster response agencies and volunteers, showcasing coordinated action during simulated earthquake and air crash scenarios.
West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar informed India Today NE that the mock drill was part of a national programme initiated after a high-level meeting with District Magistrates and Chief Secretaries across the country.
"A total of 244 locations were selected for the drill, and Tripura was among them. Mock drills are being conducted across all eight districts of the state using civil defence volunteers," Dr. Kumar said.
He said that the drill featured active participation from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), civil defence volunteers, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Apda Mitra volunteers, and several other line agencies.
The DM have informed that the simulation began with an earthquake scenario, demonstrating how civilians should react during tremors and how various agencies coordinate for rescue and relief operations.
This was followed by a mock response to an air crash, illustrating evacuation procedures and the role of first responders in ensuring civilian safety.
Officials emphasized the importance of public awareness and readiness in the face of natural or man-made disasters.
As per administrative orders, electricity supply was temporarily suspended in Agartala city from 5:30 PM to 5:40 PM today due to a scheduled mock drill.
