Tripura: Dilapidated road forces woman to deliver baby in auto rickshaw

An expecting mother was forced to deliver her baby in an auto-rickshaw which her family hired to take her to the hospital.
The incident took place in the Duski area under the Teliamura sub-division under the Khowai district later on Tuesday night.
Locals have alleged that the only road leading from the Teliamura Laltila area to Dukhai Jamadar in the Dushki area has become a dilapidated condition for a long time.
Despite repeated demands from the locals to repair the road, the concerned department has not taken any action.

Swapna Debbarma the pregnant woman from the Dukhai Jamadar area, was in labour pains her family members decided to bring her to Teliamura sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
As usual, Swapna gave birth to a baby boy as she could not arrive at the hospital because of the road condition.
The family members brought the mother along with her newborn son to the hospital.
After being taken to the hospital, the doctors of the hospital shifted the mother and child to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala which is around 42 km away, for better treatment.
On the issue, the on-duty doctor Dipa Das said the mother and the newly born baby were referred to GB Pant hospital in Agartala for better treatment as it was a case of premature delivery. However, both the baby and mother are out of danger”.
The relatives have demanded that the concerned department take the necessary steps to repair the road.
