As many as 11 persons sustained injuries after a massive fire engulfed a picnic bus in the Jagatpur Chowmuhani area of Tripura’s West District following a reported blast of the generator inside the bus.
Speaking with India Today NE, the In-Charge of West Tripura District, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Chiranjeeb Chakraborty, said that three buses carrying a picnic party had gone to Baas Gram, a tourist destination, to enjoy the picnic.
“All three buses were CNG buses. The incident occurred when the picnic party was returning to Champaknagar in West District from their picnic venue this evening. There were three buses, and in one bus, fire broke out after a generator blast,” he said.
The Additional SP added that 11 persons were injured after heavily inhaling smoke, while one person sustained minor burn injuries.
“We have rescued all the people and sent them to the hospital for treatment. According to doctors, they are now stable,” he added.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed deep concern over the tragic incident in Mohanpur, where a picnic bus was engulfed in flames following a generator explosion.
In a statement, the Chief Minister extended his prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the unfortunate event. He confirmed that six individuals with severe injuries have been transferred to GB Pant Hospital for advanced medical care.
CM Saha emphasized that authorities are vigilantly monitoring the situation to ensure the injured receive prompt and adequate medical attention. He also urged the public to exercise caution and prioritize safety during recreational activities such as picnics.
