Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced plans today for a nationwide agricultural initiative aimed at enhancing farm productivity across India.
During a video conference with state agriculture ministers, Chouhan unveiled details of the 'Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' campaign scheduled to run from May 29 to June 12.
Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who participated in the meeting, confirmed the campaign's focus on bolstering agricultural output.
"In this campaign, the focus will be on increasing agricultural production and resources, enhancing farmers' income, storing more food grains, reducing the cost of agricultural work, ensuring food security, and providing good quality seeds and fertilisers," Nath told reporters following the conference.
The initiative comes after record agricultural production nationwide, with officials now seeking to build on this success through coordinated action across all levels of government.
Tripura plans to implement the campaign across all Gram Panchayats, mobilising resources from multiple departments. The state will deploy coordinators at both the state and district levels, alongside scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).
Officials from fisheries and horticulture departments will also support the initiative, reflecting its comprehensive approach to agricultural development.
"The main important matter is food. And that is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through the Agriculture Minister, wants to give a message to improve agriculture and boost farmers' income more than double," Nath added.
The campaign aims to create widespread awareness about both central and state government agricultural schemes, providing farmers with information about available resources and support programmes.
