Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday, January 16 informed that the state government is planning to equip Tripura police at both the district and state levels with AI-based control rooms, drone technology, and modernized technology.
CM Saha said this while speaking at Tripura Police Week at the AD Nagar Police Line.
He mentioned that in the coming days, new technologies such as AI-based control rooms, drone technology, smart CCTVs, and modernized systems would be implemented. The government is actively considering these advancements.
He also informed that the process of setting up a new Police Headquarters and modernizing the East and West Agartala Police Stations is underway.
“During my meeting with PM Modi, he emphasized the need for the reconstruction of old police stations, including quarters,” he said.
CM Saha, who is also the Home Minister of Tripura, stated that Tripura Police is a source of pride.
“Last year, we celebrated the 150th anniversary of Tripura Police, which is one of the oldest forces in the country. Police provide us protection for everything from our lives to our property. When people are in distress and helpless, they turn to the police. We must work with honesty. The Police Week started with floral tributes to the police personnel who were martyred in the line of duty. I want to urge everyone to work in a transparent manner. We must earn the faith of the people. Let us pledge that the police will work with dignity and for the people,” said Dr. Saha.
He further informed that crime in the state has decreased by 19.3 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023.
“In the last 10 years, Tripura witnessed the lowest crime rates in 2024, including peaceful Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections. The police played a key role. Now, elections are being held in a festive atmosphere, leading to an increase in voter turnout. The Election Commission of India has lauded the role of Tripura Police in conducting peaceful elections. In 2024, property-related crimes decreased by 45 45 per cent, crimes related to physical assault decreased by 38 per cent, riot-related cases decreased by 75 per cent, and crimes against women decreased by 55 per cent. Over the last three years, there have been 1,666 NDPS-related cases, and 3,079 persons have been arrested. In 2024, drugs worth Rs 867 crore were seized, which is 106 per cent higher than in 2023,” he said.
The chief minister also mentioned that in 2024, five persons were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment, 13 persons were sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, seven persons were sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment, and 14 persons were sentenced to life imprisonment.
