ITANAGAR: More than 30 universities and student organisations from the northeast have banded together to organise a "Twitter storm" demanding that the history and culture of the northeast be included in the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum.

This comes a week after, a YouTuber from Punjab was arrested for allegedly making racial remarks about Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering.

Participants in the virtual gathering, which is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on June 4, will tweet with the hashtags #AChapterForNE and #NortheastMatters, urging that the region's "history, ethnicity, lifestyle, personalities, natural resources, and patriotism" be included as a mandatory chapter in NCERT textbooks.

Sparked a Twitter storm, last week a video released by Paras Singh, a 21-year-old YouTuber from Ludhiana.

In video, he made a snide remark about Ering's appearance claiming that he didn't "look Indian" and claiming that Arunachal Pradesh was not in India but in China, inciting great uproar in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast.

Paras was booked on Tuesday for “inciting ill will and hatred” against the people of Arunachal Pradesh under sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc), 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

An Arunachal Pradesh court put him in judicial prison for six days.

According to the sources, more than 30 major universities including Guwahati University, Dibrugarh University, Nagaland University, Mizoram University, NIT-Agartala, Rajiv Gandhi University Arunachal Pradesh and student unions in Delhi, Manipur and others have signed on to participate.
