ITANAGAR: Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pradesh Gegong Apang yesterday expressed grief over the death of Former CM of Assam Tarun Gogoi. Terming the veteran leader as a ‘great patriot and statesman’, Apang said that Gogoi was an amiable and endearing man with a towering personality and strong moral character.

Grieving over the veteran leaders’ death, the former CM said, “The news of the death of Tarun Gogoi has come as a bolt from the blue for all of us. Indeed, his death has created a big vacuum not only for the people of Assam but also for India. The vacuum created by his death will not so easily be filled in the future.”

“Gogoi also had a rare combination of nature and was often seen with a smiling face and tension-free mood. He conquered anger, jealousy and temptation and followed the path of Gandhian philosophy,” Apang further added.

The former Chief Minister Arunachal also offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased. Tarun Gogoi’s mortal remains reached the Navagraha Crematorium where he shall be interred.

It needs mention here that the Assam government has declared a half-holiday on Thursday as a mark of respect for the three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

According to a government order, the state government, semi-government offices, public sector undertakings, corporations, boards and educational institutions will remain closed from 1 pm on Thursday. Gogoi will be cremated with full state honours on November 26.

The former chief minister and veteran Congress leader from Assam, Tarun Gogoi, passed away on Monday, 23 November due to post COVID-19 complications. One of Assam’s tallest leaders, Gogoi was instrumental in making massive gains for the Congress party in Assam.
