Arunachal: Former CM Nabam Tuki to contest from West Parliamentary constituency

Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and current President of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee, Nabam Tuki, confirmed in an exclusive interview with India Today that he will be contesting from the Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency as a Congress party candidate.

Contrary to circulating rumours, Tuki clarified that he has not resigned from his post as President of Congress. Instead, he has advised the party and suggested to high command to relieve him from the post due to his need to campaign for the upcoming elections.

Given that the Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency spans over 40,000 square kilometers, Tuki expressed concerns about reaching all constituents.

In his interview, Tuki stated his respect for Kiren Rijiju, but also highlighted the strong public sentiment for change and the need for democracy over autocracy. Tuki urged voters to choose Congress if they value democracy.

In the last elections, Tuki contested from two constituencies, winning the Sagalee assembly constituency but losing to Kiren Rijiju in the parliamentary seat.

Tuki has served as an MLA since 1994, marking 30 years in the Sagalee constituency and has held the post of Public Works Department minister and Chief Minister for four years during his political career.
