Arunachal police arrest main recruiter of United Tani Army

The Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) apprehended Tana Hasi, identified as the main recruiter for the United Tani Army (UTA), a group led by self-styled chief Anthony Doke.

Hasi allegedly coordinated with senior UTA members and Naga insurgent groups to recruit vulnerable youth from the state, facilitating their transport to insurgent camps.

IGP Law and Order, Chukhu Apa, revealed that the APP has disrupted recruitment efforts and urged misled recruits to return voluntarily, assuring no legal action for those who come forward.

The APP remains committed to dismantling networks like UTA and protecting Arunachal Pradesh's peace and harmony.

Recently, a video alleged to be the camp of the United Tani Army was circulating in social media.

As informed by IGP law and order Chukhu Apa during a press conference at the PHQ, Hasi was in direct contact with senior members of UTA and Naga Insurgent groups and acted as a link between the group and vulnerable youth in Arunachal Pradesh.

“He was the main recruiter and recruited young individuals and facilitated their transportation to camps associated with banned organizations. He has been actively scouting for new recruits and the Capital police have foiled one such youth from joining the organization,” he added.

Sharing details of the investigation, the IGP disclosed that social media platforms and local networks were used to identify and mislead young people, persuading them to join UTA.

“This case highlights the dangerous activities of UTA, which seeks to destabilize peace and exploit the potential of our youth for violent purposes,” he said.

Apa made a fervent appeal to the recruited youths saying the police had identified their names and identities.

“Return voluntarily to your families and communities. No legal action will be taken against you if you come forward on your own. We understand that many of you may have been misled or pressured into joining. If you step back now, we will provide you with support to reintegrate into society and pursue a better future,” he urged.

The IGP also asked the parents and guardians to remain vigilant and guide their children away from such harmful influences.

“If you suspect your child or someone you know has been recruited, please encourage them to come forward voluntarily. We are here to help and ensure their safety,” he advised.

Apa further affirmed the commitment of the APP to dismantling recruitment networks like those operated by UTA and ensuring peace in the state.

“We urge the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities. Together, we can prevent these harmful ideologies from spreading and protect the future of our youth".
