Arunachal's indigenous body gives ultimatum to state: Demolish 'illegal' mosque in Naharlagun by 4 PM today
The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) has raised concerns over the ongoing construction of the Jama Masjid in Naharlagun, alleging that the building has been constructed illegally near the helipad.
APIYO president Taro Sonam Liyak has appealed to the state government and the local district magistrate to conduct an on-site inspection and take appropriate action.
Speaking to the media, Liyak claimed that the mosque was being built without proper legal clearance and warned that the organisation would intervene if authorities did not act promptly.

He suggested that, if demolition is not possible, the structure could be repurposed for public use, such as an orphanage or school.
Liyak further expressed concerns about the involvement of non-indigenous individuals in criminal activities in the state, citing drugs and sexual offences, and urged the government to take preventive measures. He stated that APIYO would mobilise protests to safeguard the interests of the indigenous population if their concerns were not addressed.
Authorities have not yet responded to the allegations, and the matter remains under observation.
