Assam: Margherita MLA challenges Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi amid mass joining in BJP

Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma today challenged Nagaon MP and senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi, declaring that he would resign from his Assembly seat if even a single primary member of the BJP were to join the Congress.

Sharma made the statement during a joining programme held at the BJP office in Margherita.

The event witnessed a major boost for the BJP, with around 495 people formally joining the party. Among them were nearly 70 Congress workers led by Tara Prasad Dehingia, former Block Congress president of Margherita, along with three ward members of Raijor Dal who had secured victory in the last panchayat elections.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said the development reflected the people’s growing trust in the BJP’s leadership and policies. He asserted that while the Congress continued to lose its ground, the BJP was steadily expanding its base in upper Assam, particularly in the Margherita constituency.

The induction is being seen as a significant political gain for the ruling party ahead of upcoming local body elections, further intensifying the BJP-Congress tussle in the region.
