The vibrant cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh took center stage as the 2nd edition of Bharat Lok Sangeet – Arunachal Utsav 2025 commenced at Poi Pee Mau Tai Ground, Namsai, on Sunday evening.
Organized by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, the festival is a tribute to India’s rich folk traditions, fostering deeper cultural ties and reinforcing Arunachal Pradesh’s identity as a guardian of indigenous heritage.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein welcomed dignitaries, artists, and cultural enthusiasts, expressing immense pride in Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse traditions. He emphasized the significance of folk music and dance as living traditions that connect generations and communities. Highlighting the ethos of "Unity in Diversity," he lauded the festival for showcasing folk traditions from Arunachal Pradesh, various Indian states, and international participants from Bhutan and Thailand. This, he noted, strengthens Arunachal Pradesh’s role in global cultural diplomacy while celebrating its artistic brilliance.
The festival features performances from 15 cultural troupes representing indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh, including the Adi, Aka Hrusso, Apatani, Idu Mishmi, Memba, Monpa, Nyishi, Tai Khamti, and Ollo, among others. Additionally, cultural groups from Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Manipur have joined the celebration, ensuring a rich blend of regional traditions. International participation from Bhutan and Thailand marks a significant milestone in fostering cross-cultural exchanges, reinforcing the universal appeal of folk traditions that transcend borders and generations.

Deputy CM Mein acknowledged and honoured Arunachal’s cultural icons, particularly the Tai Khamti cultural troupe, which has gained recognition at prestigious national events like the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav and the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. Their performance as part of a 5,000-artist ensemble contributed to a Guinness World Record, showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s artistic excellence on a global stage. Mein suggested that the troupe be felicitated with certificates at the ongoing festival to recognize their dedication to cultural preservation.
Mein also highlighted the growing international recognition of Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage. He announced that cultural troupes from the state would soon participate in the North East Festival in Singapore, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing global platforms for folk traditions. Such exposure ensures that young artists remain connected to their roots while gaining international recognition.
Emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talent, Mein reaffirmed the Government of Arunachal Pradesh’s dedication to supporting artists through the Department of Art & Culture. The department continues to provide platforms, resources, and encouragement to cultural practitioners, ensuring that traditional art forms evolve and reach wider audiences.
Recognizing the role of heritage conservation in strengthening cultural identity, he lauded the efforts of MLA Oken Tayeng, President of the Arunachal Chapter of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage). INTACH has played a vital role in preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural and architectural heritage, and Mein expressed hope that such initiatives would continue in Arunachal Pradesh to safeguard indigenous traditions for future generations.
As the Second Edition of Bharat Lok Sangeet – Arunachal Utsav 2025 unfolds, it stands as a testament to Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural richness, resilience, and global outreach. Beyond celebrating folk traditions, the festival reaffirms Arunachal’s deep-rooted connection with India’s diverse cultural fabric. Through music, dance, and artistic expression, it fosters a sense of shared heritage and mutual appreciation.
Expressing gratitude to the organizers, participating artists, and the enthusiastic audience, Mein voiced confidence that the festival will continue to grow as a premier cultural event, promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a beacon of folk heritage.
