NAGAON: As many as 85 prisoners at Nagaon Central Jail and Special Jail have been tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in September, according to a health department. official,
Of the total 85 inmates who tested positive for HIV, 45 are from the special jail and 40 are from the central jail in Nagaon town, said Dr L C Nath, Superintendent of Nagaon BP Civil Hospital, according to PTI.

All of them are HIV positive due to drug use. According to Nagaon district health department sources, the majority of HIV-positive prisoners are drug addicts who used the same syringe to inject contraband drugs into themselves, resulting in them becoming HIV positive, according to the report.
88 people tested positive in the Civil Hospital last month, including four women, said Nath.
The information provided by the Superintendent of Civil Hospital was confirmed by the authorities of both the central and special jails, says report.
