Four SEBA officials apprehended in Kamrup in 'cash for marks' scam

GUWAHATI: Four officials of the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA), Assam have been apprehended by police in connection with a “cash for marks” scam in Kamrup (Rural) district of Assam on Saturday.

The officials Madhav Deka, Pulpahi Nath, Prashanta Das, and Shibeswar Kalita have been apprehended from the Office of the Inspectorate of Schools.

It is alleged that the department was proving marks to the students of class 10 and class 12 in exchange of  money.

Assam government on June 18 declared to scrap the final exams of Class 10 and class 12 due to the COVID situation in the state.

Assam opted not to hold board examinations this year and instead established an evaluation methodology that allows institutions to assign grades based on prior exams and internal evaluations.

The results will be declared by July 31.
