GUWAHATI: An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale rocked parts of Assam and the Northeast at 7.51 am this morning, confirmed the National Center for Seismology.
It originated near Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district.
The quake occurred at a depth of 10.0 km, at a latitude of 26.73, and a longitude of 92.41.
The earthquake which struck in the region was followed by an aftershock of 6.4 magnitudes creating panic among people.
The twin earthquakes have damaged many properties and cracks developed on a number of buildings in many places. However, no report of loss of human life has been reported so far.
