The activists of the student body All Assam Minorities Students' Union (AAMSU) staged protests in several parts of Assam to protest against the NRC process.
The student body has alleged that many people are being harassed in the name of disposal of Objections which have been made in order to harass the minority community in the State. The AAMSU further rocked the nation by claiming that many of the Objections were filed in a fraudulent manner and criticized the NRC authorities for holding the NRC hearings far away from where the people are living. Moreover, it has been suggested that over 2 lakh Objections were filed on 31 December, the last date of filing nominations.
In Lakhimpur on Monday, members of the student union staged a two-hour long sit-in in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday as per the direction of the central committee of the organization.
The AAMSU demanded the District Registrar of Citizen Registration (DRCR) in respect of discrepancy in the ongoing process of disposal of claims and objection to reject the objection at the threshold where the objectors remained absent in hearing, to furnish detailed particulars of the objectors in the notice for hearing as well as to the person against whom such objection was made, and to fix the hearing venues within reasonable distance of same localities of the persons who were being called for disposal of claims and objection. The AAMSU further urged the body to ensure that not a single person is left out of the final NRC draft to be furnished on July 31.
The AAMSU also staged a protest in Tinsukia with the demand to scrap the falsely submitted Objections and to take action against the people who had lodged the allegedlyfalse Objections.
Moreover, protests were staged in many other towns such as Nagaon, etc.
