AAMSU stages protest against move to drop five documents from NRC modalities

Kokrajhar (Assam), September 13, 2018:

The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) staged a two-hour long sit-in demonstration in Kokrajhar on Thursday in protest against the purported suggestion by National Register of Citizens (NRC) state coordinator Prateek Hajela to the Supreme Court to exclude five out of the 15 documents from NRC modalities.

In a recent report submitted to the Supreme Court, Hajela had purportedly suggested that ten documents out of list “A” documents could be relied upon or introduced afresh by any claimant following his or her claim for inclusion of name in the NRC.

Criticizing the move, the AAMSU said it would stage a similar protest at Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati on September 16.
