AASU Kicks Off Bihu Celebrations by Burning 'CAA'

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) kickstarted Bihu celebrations in the State by burning copies of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act that is seen as a potential threat to the culture, language, and identity of the State.

Chief adviser of the AASU, Samujal Bhat All over Assam, we are organizing Bihu despite protests. Our students are studying. "The Assam must remain our's", Samujjal stated, adding that the jaati (destroying) CAA can be defeated through continuous protests which will be carried out in a democratic manner.

Lauding the students of the Cotton University for their initiative to burn copies of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act in a traditional meji (traditional bonfire), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Samujjal Bhattacharya on Monday urged the people of the state to feed the CAA to flames during the auspicious occasion of Bihu.

The chief advisor of the AASU, while talking to Inside Northeast, stated “The student community of the prestigious Cotton University have expressed their resentment in a very effective manner”, and appealed the people of the state, on behalf of the AASU and the 30 other organizations, to burn the controversial legislation on Bihu.
