GUWAHATI: Badruddin Ajmal, the chief of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has once again stoked the fires of controversy after invoking the Mughal invaders and the British colonialists in order to slam the 'Hindu Rashtra' designs of the ruling dispensation.
At a time when communal tensions are high in the poll-bound state, Ajmal said that his 'lock and key' party will foil the designs of PM Modi, Himanta Biswa Sarma et al to turn India into a country meant exclusively for Hindus.
"In India, the Mughal Emperors ruled for 800 years. However, they did not even try to convert the nation to a Muslim nation. They did not say that everyone should convert to Islam. They did not try and they did not have the courage," Ajmal said yesterday at a massive party rally in Jania, an AIUDF stronghold.
"Then again, the British ruled for 200 years and never tried to convert the Indians to Christianity. They did not have the guts," said Ajmal.

Post-independence, Ajmal said, none of the Congress leaders tried to turn India into a Hindu rashtra.
"Modi ji...please do not see the dream to turn India into a Hindu Rashtra...your dreams will come undone," Ajmal said, urging the people to vote en masse for the 'Grand Alliance' so as to ensure that the saffron party does not return to power.
The AIUDF has entered into an alliance with the Congress-led mahajuth to contest the ensuing elections in Assam.
The Congress led grand alliance or ‘Mahajath’ comprises the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M), the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation or CPI(ML), and the Anchalik Gana Marcha (AGM). The Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) has also broken away from the BJP-led alliance to join the alliance.
