GUWAHATI: All Assam Tribal Youth Union have demanded the Assam government to prepare a flawless correct National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) for the justified interest of the safety of the indigenous people of the state.

The tribal youth union issuing a press release said that recently NRC document has become essential for getting different government facilities and appointments.

However, the NRC published in the year 2019 taking the 24 March 1971 as the base date and year was prepared with the aim of freeing Assam from foreigners has ultimately turned to be of frustrating outcome for the indigenous people.

Thousands of tribal sons of the soils have been eliminated from the list along with different indigenous castes and communities.

It said that names of many indigenous people have not been included in the NRC due to the lack of awareness among people and for the negligence of some sections of people involved in the workout of the NRC.

Therefore indigenous sons of the soil tribal communities fear possibilities of losing the political rights in Assam itself.

The tribal union further stated in the release that thousands of villages are eliminated from the census for the inaccessible road conditions and dilapidated transportation system.

Many people of the Deuri, Sonowal Kchari, Boro, Mising, Rabha, Mech, Lalung, Garo, Thengal, Tiwa, Dimasa, etc. tribes are eliminated from the NRC.

It said since NRC document has become essential for getting different government facilities and appointments, in such a situation the indigenous tribal people are in the verse of becoming outsiders in their own nation for the lack of documents.

Therefore it has become essential to prepare a new error-free National Registrar of Citizens to overcome such faults committed in this NRC.

Submitting a memorandum they demanded the newly constituted Himanta Biswa Sarmah lead Assam Government for the preparation of a new flawless correct NRC for the justified interest of the safety of the indigenous people of Assam.

National Registrar of Citizenship is prepared in Assam as an outcome of the Assam Accord signed on August 15, 1985.
