Are women mere machines to give birth? Himanta asks AjmalAjmal

MAHMARA: BJP bigwig Himanta Biswa Sarma today slammed All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal for reportedly saying that people should give birth to as many children as possible, asking “are the women mere machines to give birth?”

Campaigning for Mahmara BJP candidate Jogen Mohan in an election meeting here, Sarma also announced that after rewarding Higher Secondary passout girl students with scooters, it will be turn of the graduate and post-graduate girl students to get scooters if the BJP is voted back to power in Assam.

“We are also considering rewarding the boys with motorcycles. But, there will be a rider. The boys will be able to give pillion rides to no woman other than their mothers and sisters,” the state education minister said jestingly.

Earlier he blasted Ajmal saying: “Look at what Ajmal is saying! He says people should give birth to as many children as possible! Only the women know how painful is childbearing for 10 months and 10 days. If Ajmal bears a baby in his tummy for that period, I am sure, he would never give birth to any baby in future!

“When he should have been saying our girl child should study and become doctor and engineer, he is saying all these! Are the women mere machines to give birth?”

Sarma also thrashed Ajmal for reportedly saying that he would ensure reopening of the madrassas if the Congress-AIUDF alliance is voted to power in Assam.

“Does Assam need mullahs? This election is the time to teach him that Assam needs doctors and engineers, not mullahs. Remember, if the Congress is voted to power people like Ajmal will be education minister or home minister. If he becomes home minister, there won’t be a fence on the Bangladesh border and people will be encouraged only to give birth in Assam as well as across the border,” Sarma said.
