GUWAHATI: Bodoland People's Front (BPF) is no more the single largest party of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as four MCLAs of the party has joined hands with the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) yesterday at an event in Guwahati.
The BPF MCLAs who had joined UPPL are as follow -- Saikong Basumatary from Chirang council, Parbhat Basumatary from Sobhaijhar council, Dhananjay Basumatary from Manas Serfang and Bijit Gawra Narzary from Darangajuli.
With the joining of these four MCLAs, the strength of UPPL increased to 20, four of them are nominated, and BPF's strength decreased to 13 MCLAs at BTC.
The equation took place right after the declaration of the results of Assam assembly polls, where the newly formed UPPL outshined the former lone BTC warrior BPF.

BPF chief Hagrama Mahilary was heard asserting earlier that once Mahajot forms government in Dispur, BPF will come to power in BTC. But the result had toppled Hagrama's all claims and equations and UPPL emerged as the crusader.
“No one can stop the formation of a Mahajot government. A BPF-led government will also be formed in the BTC if the general coalition government is formed,” Hagrama said at a rally in Baksa’s Tamulpur while campaigning for assembly polls.
Tamulpur’s BPF candidate Rangja Khungur Basumatary went missing just a day before Tamulpur went to the polls and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier, the lone MCLA from Congress had also joined BJP, an ally of UPPL, in the region.
Now UPPL alliance holds 26 MCLAs in all total in BTC.
