GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asserted that after four hours of long meeting last night the issue related to two defunct paper mills of Hindustan Paper Corporation in Nagaon and Jagiroad has come to an agreement with its employees and workers.

"Finally reached agreement with the workers and employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation to resolve long pending issues of their salaries and dues. The discussion lasted over 4 hours in my office and concluded at 2 AM," CM Sarma informed.

Reportedly, the government has agreed to release a Rs 570 crore fund to pay due to salaries to the employees but on a condition to vacate their official residence within a month.

As many as 100 young employees of HPC will get government jobs in various sectors. Employees before liquidation will receive their salaries too.

Medical staff including doctors and nurses under HPC will receive jobs too. HPC school teachers to receive 24 months of due salaries and PF.

A special relief package was announced for contractual employees of HPC.

The government has also promised to clear PF, gratuity and pension money of HPC employees once they vacate their official residence as per notice served by the liquidator.
