Assam has registered 13th highest COVID-19 cases among the states in India. It has recorded 27,744 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed. There are 67 deaths recorded so far in the state.
On Wednesday, Assam Health Minister Himanta reported about 2 new deaths taking the tally to 66. "Two more patients Alok Ghosh (54, Jorhat) and Haren Boro (47, Kamrup Metro), lost the battle against COVID-19 today taking total death count in Assam to 66. My thoughts and prayers are with their families", said HBS. An Assam Police constable Puni Mech Paul also succumbed to death due to COVID-19 infection.

On July 22nd, the Health Minister also said that the state may witness a spike of 2000 cases per day. Although the cases of Covid-19 has increased in the state, along with that death toll has risen up as well. If the case count increases, the question is there might also be a spike in death count.
In July 7, the death toll count for Assam was 15. As on 22th July, 15 days later, the count has increased to 66.
Assam is trailing behind states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Telangana, Rajasthan, Bihar and Haryana. The state records 13th highest cases in India.
