GUWAHATI: Assam Minister Bimal Borah on Saturday said that necessary arrangements will be made to cleanse the bed and test water quality of Dighalipukhuri.

The Minister paid a visit to the historic pond and took stock of the situation.

He further informed that government of Assam will be initiating balanced fishing practices after consultation with experts to promote the pond as a tourist spot and angler destination.

Commenting on the death of the fishes in the historic pond, he said, "We are working round the clock in collaboration with Fishery Dept to reduce the number of fishes in the pond."

The Assam Government had earlier ordered a probe into the incident where hundreds of fishes were found dead and floating in the Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati, informed state Environment and Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya.

Most of the dead fish are identified to be local kinds weighing between one to 10 kilograms.
