Assam: Govt to ramp up quarantine facilities in Kokrajhar, says Himanta Biswacongress

“Quarantine facilities, testing and treatment facilities would be gained up more in Kokrajhar, the heart of BTAD administration to combat and check the spread of the COVID-19”, said Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma visited Kokrajhar on Tuesday and took stock about the operation and preparedness on COVID-19 in the district.

Dr Sarma attended a review meeting at Kokrajhar DC office conference hall to make a review on the operation and preparedness of the COVID-19 in the district where Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary,  DC Bhaskar Phukan, BTAD(IGP) Anurag Agarwal, SP Rakesh Roushan, senior officials from the health department, MLAs Rabiram Narzary, Majendra Narzary were attended and deeply discussed over the operation and strategy formation to combat the COVID-19. He has asked the district administration to take stern measures to combat the Coronavirus in the district and urged all sections of citizens to maintain strict social distancing.

Dr Sarma said that he had discussed with district administration, police officers, and health department officials over the facilities of quarantine centres, testing, and treatment for the quarantined peoples. He said that state government has emphasized making gaining up of quarantine facilities, testing and treatment in Kokrajhar who are taking shelters at centres in the district.

“We used Kokrajhar first screening zonal centre in the state and many thousand peoples took shelter in the Kokrajhar quarantine centres those recahed in Assam after stranding neighbouring states and later through the deep procedures  large numbers of the quarantined peoples were shifted in their respective districts across the state”,Dr Sarma said.

Dr Sarma said that still today over 3000 peoples qurantined in Kokrajhar dsitrict. Baksa nad Chirang districts are getting their start of quarantine works from 5th June in their respective districts.

“We sent additional laboratory technicians to work for the COVID-19 testing for meeting early testing results to be come out within four days in the district of Kokrajhar.The discussion was held the emphasized of strict social distancing amongst the society”,Sarma said.

He informed that state government has been working dedicatedly to combat the Coronavirus in the state and accordingly laid strong initiatives in the state against the COVID-19 outbreak.

On the educational services, Dr Sarma said that state government was ready to start working of eductaional services immediate if centre and ministry of home affairs(MHA) allows to open classes in the state,the school/college curriculum would be opened for the students in the state.

"As a education minister, I do wish early opening of classes X and XII in the state,but it depends on the centre's approval",Dr Sarma said.

He has urged all sections of citizens to maintain strict social distancing amongst the citizens to combat the Coronavirus outbreak in the state.
