Assam: Hailakandi returnee from Hyderabad tests COVID-19 positive; shifted to SMCH

Jakaria Ahmed Mazumder of Hailakandi district in Assam has been tested COVID-19 positive on May 22^nd, 2020.

Hailing from Bilaipur, Lalapani area of Hailakandi, Mazumder who was put under institutional quarantine at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Monacherra immediately after his arrival together with 118 other train passengers from Hyderabad on Wednesday, was confirmed COVID-19 positive by Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Friday.

Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.Ramesh Chandra Dwivedy while confirming the case said the 19-year- old youth has been shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam for better medical care and treatment on Friday evening.

Quarantine in-charge of JNV, Monacherra, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha, informed that Mazumder was quarantined along with 166 other inmates at the centre. On being tested positive, he was shifted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital by health personnel, Jha said, adding that the centre was sanitized by Fire and Emergency Services personnel thereafter.

Jha pointed out that Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner, MN Dahal, Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath and health functionaries are constantly visiting the JNV centre and five other notified centres and taking stock of the situation.

"Officers are working round the clock attending to  calls and looking after the inmates besides a section of security personnel," said Jha.

At JNV quarantine centre, the inmates are kept in five different boys hostels observing all protocols.

The district administration has constituted different cells such as hygiene, refreshment and other cells with a senior officer as incharge with assisting staff to ensure smooth running of the quarantine centres.

"The officer on duty has to submit report every 12 hourly about the status of quarantine centre, including quality and quantity of food served to the inmates and sanitisation," he added.

Tea, breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner are served to the quarantine inmates.

31 passengers arrived here by 20502 New Delhi-Agartala Rajdhani Express on Friday evening and were screened at the Dholeswari Inbound Passenger Facilitation Centre. They were later ferried to the quarantine centres.
