Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Preparations ahead of PM Modi Visit to Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar, February 1, 2020:

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, along with Bodoland People's Front (BPF) leaders Hagrama Mohilary and Biswajit Daimary, reviewed preparations for the upcoming "celebrations" in Kokrajhar (on February 7) to mark the signing of the "historic" pact between the Government of India and the long-agitating Bodo organizations.

Talking to mediapersons, the 'Chanakya of Assam' confirmed that the Prime Minister will be present at the event that has been organized by the Assam and the BTC Government, along with the four factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the leaders of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), and the United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO).'

Dismissing reports of a 'bandh' during the PM's visit, the Minister stated that if any person or organization has issues with the Government's decision, they should approach the Government for talks. "If someone has not understood...if someone is in grief...we will discuss with them."

Regarding the issue of incorporation of new areas into the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Biswa Sarma said, "Within 6 months, villages will be added, or they will be deducted", adding, "The areas that want to be in the BTC, should put forth applications in the commission...the areas that do not want to be in the BTC should also put forth their applications to the commission. The commission will have members from the ABSU, BTC, a retired Judge of the High Court, as well non-Bodos."

the Minister said that political issues will be put on the back burner till the Prime Minister's visit. "We will only talk politics after the meeting on the 7th...before the 7th, it is our intention that people do not talk about politics. hope there is no bad blood among us. The PM will come, and we will bid adieu to him, and then, we will talk about politics...."
