Stressing on the ‘Digital India’ during the national lockdown 4.0 enforced to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Asian Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT), Assam, organized a national webinar addressing a discussion on ‘Radio: Playing a medium of voice to the voiceless during COVID-19’. The webinar was organized under the keen initiative of Management of the college and Emanuel L Hmar, Event Coordinator of the program and head of the department.

The speaker Neelam Nanda Prabhat, Assistant Professor at Maharaja Institute of Management Studies, elaborated on the concerted efforts of the radio stations to initiate voice to the voiceless. Referring to various radio stations ranging from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam, Prabhat urged the participants to understand the prospect of the radio after the end of COVID-19.

The programme, largely attended by the students of the different universities across the country along with the students of the Department of Mass Communication, AIMT.

In her speech as moderator of the event, Sumi Sharma, Assistant Professor from the Department of Mass Communication said that “In today’s digital world, radio reaches more people than any other media platform: it is the mass medium that reaches the widest audience in the world.” She added that “Radio being an interactive medium in a developing country like India as our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacts with people across the country on a range of important subjects through Mann ki Baat”

To create awareness among the masses, especially amid the students about various media related topics, burning issues concerning the society and the State, the Department of Mass Communication of Asian Institute of Management and Technology is organizing such kind of programmes from time to time. As a part of this initiative, the department invites experts from diverse fields to provide knowledge create awareness among the new generation of various relevant topics on various occasions.
