ASSAM: NIA SECURES CONVICTION OF FOUR ACCUSED IN PREPAK-UPPK CASEnia

NIA Special Court, Guwahati pronounced sentence to convicted accused in NIA case RC-04/2012/NIA/GUW (PREPAK-UPPK case) today. The four accused persons were well trained cadres of proscribed terrorist organization PREPAK-UPPK, who were involved in a criminal conspiracy to wage war against the Government of India, thereby threatening the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. They had resorted to armed struggle to achieve their objective and in pursuance; they had recruited a number of cadres and trained them in terrorist activities. They were also involved in raising funds by way of illegal means such as extortion from Government officials, businessmen, professionals and civilians too. They had opened Bank accounts under assumed identities by using forged documents to channelize the funds, which were further invested in movable/ immovable assets across the country and abroad. The court had convicted four accused persons who were identified as Ningthoujam Shanti Meitei alias Chinglemba Mangang alias Takhelchangbam Hemanta Sharma (A-1), L. Inaocha Singh alias Birjit alias Jit alias Lalcha (A-2), Laishram Jiten Singh alias Selkai (A-3) and Elangbam Bobo alias Khanganba (A-4). The four accused were sentenced to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine.
