Assam Police personnel on Monday seized a large consignment of what is suspected to be heroin drugs in Rongpur under Cachar district of Assam.

Based on secret input, a Cachar police team led by sub-inspector Anada Medhi seized 80 grams of suspected heroin that is worth around Rs 8-10 lakh in the local market. Two persons, identified as Taiyabur Rehman Barbhuiya (35) and Khairul Haq (47), have been arrested in connection with smuggling the illegal substance.
Khairul Haq informed mediapersons that the vehicle is owned by a certain Nazimuddin, who is a resident of Tripura. Both the suspects, who were taken to the Silchar Police Station, denied being aware about the presence of drugs in their vehicle.

According to police reports, the duo was carrying the suspected heroin in two vehicles numbered TR 02 D 0231 (Santro) and AS 11 CC 8579 (Cruiser). both of which have been seized by the police. According to police reports, the suspects had brought the drugs from Imphal, the capital of Manipur, that shares a porous international borders with Myanmar, where a lot of the drugs supplied to India is manufactured.
