TINSUKIA: Amid fervid electioneering for the ensuing elections in Assam, a suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Dipanjoli Kakati, who was reportedly suspended from the saffron party following the incident, was picked up from her residence in Tinsukia.
Earlier, CCTV footage showed BJP leader Kakati physically assaulted a police officer on duty inside the Kakopathar police station and fleeing from the spot.
The saffron party leader has been booked under Section 332 of the IPC (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), which is a non-bailable offence.

According to reports, Apurba Das, a sub-inspector of the Kakopathar police station, was physically assaulted by Kakati in November 2020.
Kakati was a former member of the Moran Autonomous Council and executive member of the state BJP committee.
Following the registration of the attack, Assam BJP suspended Kakati from the party. The FIR was registered at Kakopathar police station on November 8.
Although Kakoti filed for pre-arrest bail in this regard, it remained cancelled.
