The forest department and police administration have seized several vehicles loaded with smuggled timbers from different places in Chirang district in Assam on August 14th, 2020.
On Friday early morning, forest department arrested a timber smuggler and seized four timber loaded vehicles at Odalguri under Runikhata forest range along the border area with Bhutan.
Getting inputs about the timber smuggling by timber mafias, illegally smuggled huge numbers of timbers from deep jungles of Chirang ripu reserve forest for their black market in the area.

Timber mafias were tried to carry the illegal timbers in the vehicles which were detected at the Odalguri village area.
The arrested timber smuggler was identified as Tahilya Narzary. Market value for the seized timbers would be approximately Rs 4 lakh.
On Thursday evening, police and Basugaon forest staffs busted an illegally running sawmill at Salguri and seized several 3 CMs of timbers including one 30 inch Timber sawing iron plate, one Vertical stand made of iron, one generator set and two Iron wheels.
In July, continuing the search operations against the deforestation and timber smuggling, the forest department and anti- corruption & crime investigation front had seized timber sawing Honda machines, smuggling patai timbers etc on Wednesday evening of which market value to be approximately Rs.4 lakhs.
A joint team operation comprising of forest staff Jharbari Range, anti-corruption & crime investigation front, Bodoland environmental protection society have intensified strict search operation against the timber smuggling at Genduguri and Aouguri areas under Haltugaon forest division, Assam and able to seize smuggled timbers, sawing Honda machine, hand-pulled thelagari etc.
The seizures included five numbers of illegally used timber sawing Honda machines, four numbers of hand pulling thelagari,several numbers of over 60 pieces of patai timbers which were illegally used and smuggled by timber mafias in the deep forest region.
