3-time former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi on Saturday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Government at the Centre after the announcement of the Union Budget and cautioned the people not to trust the saffron party's words.
Gogoi, in his statement, said that the saffron party has a tendency to "lie" and cheat voters in order to win elections, and later, after winning, does little to fulfill the pre-election promises.

Citing an example, Gogoi asked what the BJP has done to revive the defunct HPC paper mills in Assam, which it had pledged to re-install during pre-election rallies.
Gogoi further lambasted the Government for not allotting funds to build bridges across the mighty Brahmaputra, which the Congress had given the assent to during its 15-year regime in Assam.

Dismissing the newly-proposed budget as an attempt to "mislead" the public, Gogoi expressed confidence that the Government would not upgrade Assam's historic Sivasagar town into an "iconic" site, as per its plans. "Tell me...what has the BJP done in 6 years in Assam", Gogoi queried.
The heritage city of Assam’s Sivasagar will be developed as iconic site with on-site museums, said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the Union Budget for the financial year 2020-21 in the Parliament earlier today.
"Five archaeological sites would be developed as iconic sites with on-site museums. They are Rakhigarhi in Haryana, Hastinapur in Uttar Pradesh, Sivasagar in Assam, Dholavira in Gujarat and Adichanallur in Tamil Nadu", announced the Finance Minister.
