GUWAHATI: Leader of opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia on Sunday wrote to DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta seeking proper investigation against a luxury hotel in Guwahati for flouting COVID-19 protocols.
In a letter to the DGP, Saikia wrote, " It came into light that Hotel Taj Vivanta had organized parties past 12 midnight flouting COVID protocols in the state. The incident came light after a woman rammed 8 PWD workers in a drunk state after returning from a party post midnight from the aforesaid hotel."
Saikia added that even though the accused was arrested along with the doctor who provided fake medical reports to help her, there was no action taken against the hotel and also the organizer of the event for organizing parties going against the guidelines laid out by the state government.

"This has raised a question among common public that probably laws are not equal for all", he added.
He urged the DGP to formulate a special investigation team to investigate the matter without waiting for directions from the Chief Minister.
"This team will not only investigate this particular accident but also carry out a detailed investigation into the matter and bring to light all the people who broke COVID protocols", added Saikia.
He further urged the DGP to take the matter seriously and take strict actions against those who flouted COVID norms.
