TINSUKIA: Continuing its pursuit of those peddling drugs in Assam, the state police force has arrested two more for dealing in the Tinsukia district.

The Tinsukia police personnel have also seized heroin narcotics worth around Rs. 6 lakh from the two suspects.

Last night, police personnel of the Panitola police station was conducting a search along the National Highway 37 when they found the contraband packed in an LPG cylinder carrying vehicle bearing registration number AS23 BC 8179.

Prujen Phukan, the driver of the vehicle, and his aide Jamunaram Limbu soon found themselves in police custody.

A senior police official has informed that Tinsukia police has nabbed as many as 32 people accused of dealing drugs over the past few days.

Police have informed that miscreants have been shipping drugs to and from the district amid the ongoing lockdown. In view of this, the Tinsukia police have resolved to continue with its anti-drug operations.

Though the drive against drugs has been part of the routine police operations, the campaign picked momentum last month after the new government under Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the home portfolio, took charge as the chief minister.
