"Former BTC administration completed a lot of work", admits Himanta Biswa Sarma

MUSHALPUR: Admitting that a lot of work has been done in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) by the previous Council led by CEM Hagrama Mohilary, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that there is a lot that is yet to be accomplished. Sarma made this admission days after UPPL supremo Promod Boro was appointed the CEM with the backing of the BJP and GSP parties.

Making an address during Scooter Distribution Ceremony under Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award at Mushalpur, Sarma said that the previous administration led by Mohilary had "done a lot of work."

"Although a lot of work has been done, a lot of roads are yet to be built. From the provincialization of schools, to taking the light of education to all -- we have a lot of challenges ahead," Sarma said, adding that many people still do not have the rights to buy/sell land.

After the conclusion of the election, Sarma stated, all tribes and communities will be able to walk with their heads held high. "The administration formed under Boro will usher in a new age where each tribe and community will be able to feel equal," he stated.

"I have come to the Baksa district for the BTC for the first time after the election. We saw an election for the first time since the BTR election which saw people from all walks of life. For the first time, a wonderful election was conducted in the BTC. Even Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, lauded the successful election in the BTR," he said.

The Minister also urged upon the residents of the 4 BTR districts to tabulate names so that they can avail the 'Orunodoi' scheme of the Assam State Government.

Sarma on Saturday distributed free scooties to the meritorious girl students of Baksa district who had passed higher secondary (HS) final exams in the first division under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in 2020. Around 500 girl students from the Baksa district have been found eligible to receive the award.
