Gauhati University Website Hacked, Linked to Japanese Pornographic Page

Guwahati, December 1, 2019:

The website of the Gauhati University (GU), which is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the region, has been hacked on Sunday morning, reports said.

According to media reports -- the home page of the website carried the following message: Upcoming Question Papers Leaked: QUESTION PAPER. When visitors clicked on the hyperlink they were directed to a pornographic site.

Rahul Deka, a student informed Inside Northeast that the website was linked to a Japanese porn site. "The link was there from about 11 am in the morning till around 2. However, the website has now been blocked now owing to this embarrassment", Rahul added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the University had earlier landed in a controversy, after it came to light that students of the 3rd Semester students of Gauhati University in Assam received an unpleasant surprise when they received a ‘wrong’ question paper during the ongoing exams. After the students started complaining because of that, the examination was indefinitely postponed by the authorities.

Although the students were slated to appear for the ‘Indian Constitution’ paper, what they received instead was the ‘International Relations’ question paper.

What ensued was a situation of hue-and-cry and utter confusion. Fifteen minutes into writing the paper, the students found out, to their utter relief, that the exam had been called off.
