GUWAHATI: After a brief lull for two days, a fresh case of gunfire was reported along the Assam-Mizoram border in Hailakandi district.
At around 2 am on Tuesday, Assam police resorted to gunfire at a group of people suspected from Mizoram said Assam police. The incident happened while Assam police were busy setting up a police outpost.
Talking to InsideNE, Gaurav Upadhyay, Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi said, “Assam was putting a police outpost in the area. During that time, few people approached there with torchlights. It was too dark to see anything clearly. So we had to open fire.”

Upadhaya said no casualty has been reported from Assam.
“There is no casualty from our side. However, I am not sure about the other side.”
Unconfirmed sources say, a youth from Mizoram has got bullet injury in the incident and has been admitted to a hospital in Bilaipur area along the Assam-Mizoram border.
